Jose Rizal’s tallest statue to be unveiled on his 150th birth anniversary

Dr. Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday, June 19, 2011, which will be marked by the unveiling of the tallest Rizal statue to date, as reported by local news sites, June 18, 2011.


As reported, Calamba City, Rizal’s hometown, will head the ceremony in commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the national hero which will be highlighted by the unveiling of the 22-foot bronze statue, said to be tallest Rizal statue.

Apparently, city information officer Peter Capitan, thru a phone interview, said that it was late last year that the construction of the statue was started and that costs had reached in “millions.”

As noted, the statue is mounted on a tiled concrete pedestal situated on a 6.9-hectare lot just right across the street from the Calamba City Hall in Barangay Real.

Capitan said, “If measured from the concrete base, the whole monument stands four-stories high.”

Further report reveals that, President Benigno Aquino, 15th Philippine president, is anticipated to lead in the statue unveiling after his Rizal Day speech come Sunday.

“We are expecting a bigger program this year. We will have the longest and most-participated civic-military parade around Calamba in the afternoon,” Capitan adds.
