Guinness World Records: Filipino declared world’s shortest man

Junrey Balawing, an 18-year old from southern Philippines, was named the world’s shortest man by the Guinness World Records where in officials measured him at 24 and 1/4 inches lying down as reported in various international news sites, June 12, 2011.

It was reported that, Balawing, son of a Filipino blacksmith, stopped growing when he was still a toddler and now that he celebrate his 18th birthday he was officially announced by the Guinness World Records as the world’s shortest man.

Apparently, it was reported that he beat the previous record holder, Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal, by being two inches shorter.

Further report attests that, Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of the Guinness World Records, said that, “Officially he is the world’s shortest man,” after measuring Balawing in front of cheering relatives and villagers.

As noted, Junrey’s father, Reynaldo, told a group of reporters and photographers, “Thank you to all of you for supporting my son, the world’s shortest man.”
