The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao intensified into a tropical depression, code-named "Egay", early Friday, as reported in various local news sites, June 17,2011.
It was reported that, PAGASA, in its 5:45 a.m. weather bulletin, confirmed that “Egay” was last spotted 310 kilometers east of Surigao City, and moving northwest at 13 kph.
Apparently, no storm signals are aired by PAGASA, although rains are predicted at areas in Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao.
"Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Southern Palawan, Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said.
As noted, “Egay” has sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and is expected to reach 170 kms east of Borongan, Samar by Saturday morning and 110 km east of Virac, Catanduanes by Sunday morning.
Report reveals that, come Monday morning, “Egay” is expected to be 190 km northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.
