A woman named Jennifer Pharr Davis made an unofficial record for the fastest trail hike of the entire Appalachian Trail as reported by US news sites, August 2, 2011.
As reported, Jennifer Pharr Davis’ journey started from Mount Katahdin in Maine last June 16 and lasted in exactly 46 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes as she trekked the entire 2,180-mile hike down the eastern U.S.
"Fastest is so relative," as Davis was quoted in the report. "My average was 3 mph. So what are you not going to see at 3 mph?"
Apparently, after emerging from the woods Sunday at the trails southern end at Springer Mountain in Georgia; she was greeted with loud cheering from waiting family and friends.
As Davis reportedly said, “There were a lot of tears. Everyone was like, `Are those happy tears?' I just said they're everything tears. I'm so happy. In a way, I'm sad it's over. I'm tired. It was just like every emotion was coming out at once.”
Although reports indicate that the tail has no official time record for the fastest hike Davis claims she broke the record set in 2005 by Andrew Thompson by just over 24 hours.
