Bruce Lee memorabilia in Hong Kong sets the largest auction so far for the kung fu legend as estimates reached $220,000 as reported by international news sites, August 8, 2011.
As reported, thirteen items belonging to the founder of the Jeet Kune Do martial arts movement, Bruce Lee, were auctioned Saturday and were immediately taken by loyal fans.
It was noted that among the things auctioned one particular item stood out, it was a fur-lined coat used by Lee for the film “Game of Death” just before he died in 1973.
As revealed, the winning bid of nearly $600,000 HKD ($76,850) for the fur-lined coat came from Greg Manning from New Jersey in the United States as he stated that it was his way of paying his respect for the late kung fu master.
"I think Bruce Lee is, worldwide, recognized as one of the most important people in the martial arts field," Manning was quoted in the report. "He really pioneered the film genre and we respect him as a human being and a person for his work, and his art, and for what he did."
As further revealed, the organizers of the auction had earlier estimated that the thirteen items would fetch around $113,000.
